HISTORY OF THE LIBRARY: The Central library of Surya Sen Mahavidyalaya was started from the inception of the college in the year 1998. It is one of the very few libraries in Siliguri and surroundings which has a separate building.
LIBRARY BUILDING: There are more than 16000 books in our central library, which is located on the first floor of the three storey "Amit Agarwala Learning cum Resource Centre" building. These books include both text books and reference books. In addition, the central library subscribes to 6000 peer-reviewed journals, 14 popular magazines, 5 daily newspapers, and 12 peer-reviewed print academic journals. It also has access to more than 5 lakh e-books. Both teachers and students can use the open access resources at the library, however membership is required.
LIBRARY AUTOMATION: The Koha ILMS (Integrated Library Management System) is used to fully automate the library.
INSTITUTIONAL MEMBERSHIP: The library is an institutional member of UGC INFLIBNET NLIST (National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content) and NDL (NATIONAL DIGITAL LIBRARY). For students who are financially disadvantaged, it has also developed the "PC Chandra Book Bank Collection" book bank facility.
OTHER DETAILS OF LIBRARY: The library offers a collection specifically for career-oriented programmes as well as a variety of other services, including separate reading areas for faculty and students, reprographic services, separate baggage counters, purified drinking water, wi-fi connectivity, and round-the-clock CCTV surveillance. It also has a 24*7 online library catalogue search (WEB OPAC) facility for all the users. Recently, the central library developed the IRINS instance for the institution.
